The Wheels
The Wheels
The Wheels hail from Pittsburgh, but the five-piece rock band is no stranger to Johnstown.
Drawing from influences such as The Kinks, Little Feat and Gram Parsons, the band has been seen at various Johnstown venues and festivals, in addition to regular club shows in Pittsburgh, Erie, Morgantown and Cleveland.
Members are TJ Connolly, Brad Barron, Jake Brieding, Joe Piacquadio and Matt Vucic.
The band released its first album last December after a year of recording in a pro studio, and has since sold more than 500 copies.
Plans are in the works to head back to the studio in 2010 for the next full-length album.  For more, visit The Wheels online at myspace.com/thewheelspittsburgh.

Bodolosky:

I liked the vocal style. The song reminds me of one of the style
of "What a Day For a Day Dream."
The guitar work is simple and tasty,
including the solo with its melodic arpeggios. It's bright and happy. Its nice
to hear different brush styles and a different feel between the chorus and
bridge. I enjoyed this one.

Distefano:
A real good song with a great treatment
instrumentally.
The lyrics and music have a well traveled maturity, which
shines through with a near flawless studio production.
Same goes for all of
their entries this year.

Dobbins:
Another fine example of a well-executed and
overally very appealing rock/country song. The song is simple, yet unique. The
vocals are clean and crisp. I very much enjoyed the song

I have to say that you boys bring the passion. Not only do you write and play
with it. but the listeners can feel exactly what your were feeling when you
wrote it. From the first time i heard you play to the last time i heard you play
i can honestly say ive never experienced a second of dissapointment. you were
great then and youve only gotten better each time.

thankyou for the love you
put in each song. you work hard and i wish all of you the best. your album is
excellent and i hope to hear another one soon.

I knew I would love this band when I saw The Kinks and Gram Parsons mentioned up
there. You guys have been really consistant, and I look forward to hearing more.

"the blow" is one of the best written tunes in this contest. musically
and lyrically. I truly can't believe the the reasoning behind the score. I've
only heard your songs from this contest. im planning on buying the album....
thank you for your music

I love, love, love this song.... it's my favorite out of the songs we've heard
from you in the contest

Can't go wrong with the kinks and Gram Parsons. I really enjoy your sound.

I will bet it's because they did so well last week. I like the song too. There
is no reason for it being so low other than people wanting to punish them for
doing so well in this contest. shame. This contest started off decent but now
things are getting ridiculous.

I can't figure out why this band is so low on the roster this week... this is
one of the better songs this round

Great song guys! Do you have a CD? If so where can I get one?

Jim Donovan: "I really like this tune, the vocalist is a pro and the
players around him know exactly how to tastefully support what is happening in
the song. It makes me visualize something I'd listen to on an early summer night
sitting on the porch."

Mike Miller: "I'm a sucker for when the sound
of a song is carefully matched up with the mood of the lyrics. This song
captures the idea of being "lonesome," but stays self-effacing and sort
of funny. Plus that ragtime piano stuff gets me every time."

Enjoyed the song...Wish you the best and hope to see you guys live again soon...

  • ryancunning : This is why having everyone vote for all four people in the final round was a bad idea. Look at the final results.. with rounding everyone had the same online score! Jackie Kopco technically got third place because she had higher online votes.
  • HollyGoligh : So there is a tie for 3rd - Yuz Guyz and Jackie Kopco??? Will we have a tie breaker??
  • admin : That is correct smith. I haven't seen the final results as of yet. I'd look for the results in Our Town on the 14th. I'll post them up on the website as well though.
  • smith : The only difference is that at the start of the 4th round the final 4 started from scratch again
  • smith : sorry... 50% voter and 50% judges score make up the total score
  • smith : It runs the same way it has before. 50
  • kenbo76 : When will we find out the final results. I thought the judges final score was the final decision, not the voters.
  • admin : Yeah, I thought that would be a nice touch. Some of the songs from previous years are up as well. I haven't put all of the songs up as of yet.
  • Sorto : Cool, all the songs are up!
  • smith : Ok, pencils down.
